T3-87 : THRILLER PROJECT 2007/8

T3-87, Surface Analysis

We have been watching opening sequences to existing Thriller Films and those made by students in the college.

The sequence we are analysing is called "Surface" and is made by students from the college.

Sound- A continuous soundtrack is played to set a scary atmosphere. Another layer if sound is used from the characters such as screaming., this contrasts the simple music to add excitement and shock to the opening sequence. There is some diegetic sound that takes place towards the end of the sequence which is a scream.

Editing- There is a negative effect put on certain shots of ink that has been squirted into a bath. The pace of the editing is slow as after the more fastly paced scenes it slips into a negative ink scene.

Camera Work- the camerawork has a very unproifessional look towards it which is deliberate so that it looks more realistic as home shot. It is done shakily to emphasise this and so that not too much of each shot is shown, keeping the mystery of what the film is about.

The titles are very small so do not distract the viewer from the main scene.
